Der Anfang ist Schwer Linus Bill

Originally trained as a photographer, Linus Bill has become known for an irreverent body of works that capitalise equally on a sharp wit and an intimate sense of the autobiographical. Bill's work encompasses collage technique, drawing, typography and photogram, and approaches the creation of images with an experimental fervour characteristic of the Dada Surrealists his practice is at times compared with.

Der Anfang ist Schwer is characteristic of Bill's image making process; a photographic composite that has been further abstracted through silk screen transfer. Reminiscent of the dots that appear before one’s eyes after a camera flash, Bill’s work considers the material as well as social function of photographs, through works that are densely constructed yet formally enticing.
