Summary

Bigger Cedar #29 Louise Belcourt

Louise is known for her paintings of landscapes that are familiar to her. These paintings depict a garden in Canada which Louise visits annually to paint. The hedges become imposing structures that block any view or thoroughfare. Louise focuses on finding the right colour, light and sense of space to create a feeling of hope – she sees herself as part of the landscape and aims to portray a place where the artist and outer world come together. Louise’s unique approach invites us to see and sense different aspects of the landscape.
