Cold Climate Kate Bright

In her wintry landscapes, Kate Bright continues to exploit the reflective potential of glitter, known as a kitsch material used in craft projects and cheap greeting cards. But Bright is less making comment on mass culture and its sentimental trappings but trying to capture some of the grandeur and beauty found in nature. "The glitter, from the moment I picked it up, was screaming to be sunshine on water...I earnestly want to capture that in a painting."

London-based Kate graduated from Goldsmiths College and now lectures at the Slade School of Fine Art. She has had solo exhibitions at the Centro Internacional de Arte de Salamanca, Spain; The New Art Gallery Walsall, UK; Vitamin Contemporary Art, Turin, Italy; and the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle, UK.
