Marina and Bettina Alex Katz

This portrait of two women was created as part of a body of work published in fashion magazine, W, in October 2004. Alex styled each model individually, choosing clothes from the collections of prominent designers to complement their natural elegance.

Alex Katz

Katz is one of the most important and prolific living American painters. He had his first solo show in 1954 and has since then carved out a distinct style, often going against the 'fashion' of the time, for example eschewing Abstract Expressionism at its height. He has been influential not only on visual art, but also fashion, style, music and theatre throughout his career. He studied at the Cooper Union in New York and at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine.
