MMXLI translates as the year 2041, a significant date when the Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty will be reviewed. This photograph is one of two taken together that show the arresting Antarctic scenery. Darren brings our attention to the environmental issues surrounding this last truly wild location.

Biography

Darren Almond

Darren lives in London and studied at the Winchester School of Art. He works with photography, film, sculpture and installation, and is known for exploring the impact of time and symbolism on the human experience. He has taken part in many group exhibitions, such as Sensation (1997-1999) and the Tate Triennial (2009). His solo exhibitions include SITE (2007) and Parasol Unit (2008).
