Tabbed information for art piece

Vivien Alex Katz

Alex's early training in commercial art is evident in his vast body of work, which often references the imagery found in fashion illustration and billboards. He is well known for his portraiture of friends and family members, in this case his daughter-in-law Vivienne.

Alex Katz

Katz is one of the most important and prolific living American painters. He had his first solo show in 1954 and has since then carved out a distinct style, often going against the 'fashion' of the time, for example eschewing Abstract Expressionism at its height. He has been influential not only on visual art, but also fashion, style, music and theatre throughout his career. He studied at the Cooper Union in New York and at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine.
